Lars Kolbjornson ist das, was man einen „ruhigen Pol“ nennt. Er bringt ein für einen Fjordhengst ungewöhnlich erwachsenes Auftreten mit: kein Schabernack, kein überdrehtes Ponygehabe. Menschen gegenüber bleibt er höflich und gelassen, eher verschlossen als anhänglich, dabei aber stets korrekt erzogen und gut händelbar.
In ihm vereint sich das Arbeitspferd seiner Mutterlinie mit dem unbekannteren ausländischen Vater – eine Mischung, die ihm Substanz, Gang und Charakterstärke gibt. Obwohl Lars nicht der Typ fürs Kraulen und Kuscheln ist, lässt er sich im täglichen Umgang gut anfassen, steht zuverlässig beim Schmied und bleibt auch in schwierigen Situationen gelassen.
Hengst bleibt er trotzdem: In Gegenwart von Stuten muss sein Führer klar und konsequent sein – das respektiert Lars und läuft dann brav mit. Sein Reitpferdecharakter ist ebenfalls geprägt von Souveränität: Jugendliche wie Anton können ihn reiten, weil er weder buckelt noch abrupt reagiert, aber er braucht eine ruhige, klare Hand. Unter dem Sattel zeigt er sich ausdauernd, gleichmäßig und zuverlässig, auf Turnieren solide und unaufgeregt.
