Rod zeigt viel Temperament. Sowohl an der Hand im Umgang als auch auf der Weide (sofern er nicht grade das Gras interessanter findet) als auch unterm Sattel muss der Hengst immer alles im Blick behalten und forsch voran. Sein Einfallsreichtum und sein Springvermögen stellen ihm selten Hindernisse in den Weg. Ansonsten ist er im Umgang aber recht friedlich, gerne verschmust bis zu anhänglich, und - wenn er ausgelastet ist - auch durchaus entspannt.
Klar ist, dass er Beschäftigung braucht, denn der Hengst schöpft viel Energie aus dem Nirgendwo. Doch nur einfaches Verpulvern von Energie hilft da nicht, erst wenn der Geist auch gefordert ist, findet Rod seine Auslastung.
Im Parcours entwickelt er mächtig Zug. Er überspringt alles und bremst nur für optisch auffällige Hindernisse mal ein bisschen. Dass es ihm beim Tempo öfter mal an Schwung fehlt, stört ihn wenig: Was das Abräumen von Hindernisse angeht, ist er recht unempfindlich.
Nicht selten kommt es vor, dass man in dem Bemühen, ein bisschen Parcours zu trainieren doch nur Linien reitet und kaum Stangen überwindet, da dort oft mehr Bedarf ist, als an allem anderen.
