Alpenstein ist ein freundlicher und gutmütiger Hengst. Er ist sehr harmoniebedürftig und daher stets bemüht, zu allen und jedem nett zu sein. Im Umgang ist er daher recht unkompliziert und leicht zu händeln. Auch im Umgang mit anderen Pferden ist er sehr freundlich, verteidigt aber notfalls seinen Posten auch mal und wird dabei sehr deutlich. Bei Stuten zeigt er auch mal Hengstmanieren, wird daber aber nicht zum Wirbelwind.\r\nUnterm Sattel gibt gerne sein bestes und lernt schnell dazu. Er hat eine gute Auffassungsgabe und weiß immer genau, was um ihn herum alles passiert. Das führt aber hin und wieder dazu, dass er abgelenkt wird und sich nicht auf das konzentriert, was vor ihm liegt. Erst recht wenn Stuten in der Nähe sind, dann ist er lieber mit diesen beschäftigt. Beschäftigt man ihn gut und gibt ihm genug Rückhalt, zeigt der Hengst recht schöne Ansätze in Dressur und auch im Gelände.
