Leonardo ist ein sehr quirliges Pferd. Er kann von morgens bis abends aktiv sein und ein Tag muss schon sehr anstrengend sein, damit Leonardo abends ausgepowert ist. Er braucht sein tägliches Training und den Koppelgang, um seine Energie los zu werden und verträgt Pausen nur sehr schlecht.\r\nIm Training ist er ebenfalls quirlig, aber meist gut zu kontrollieren. Lediglich beim Springen heizt er sich manchmal auf und es tut ihm gut, zwischendurch ein paar Dehnungs- und Lockerungsübungen zu machen, da er mitunter so unter Spannung steht, dass er hektisch und unkonzentriert wird. Leider ist seine Reaktion auf Fehler oft, dass er noch stürmischer wird. So regt er sich, wenn er einmal angefangen hat, immer stärker auf und ist nur schwer zu beruhigen. Hier ist vom Reiter absolute Routine und Gelassenheit gefragt, denn nur so kriegt man ihn wieder runter.\r\nLeonardo lernt vor allem durch Pausen. Wenn eine Lektion lange nicht klappt, wirkt es oft Wunder, sie einige Wochen lang nicht abzufragen. Danach geht der Rapphengst wieder viel ruhiger an die Sache ran und kann auf einmal Sachen, die er vorher trotz tagelanger Wiederholung nicht hinbekommen hat.\r\nMit anderen Pferden ist Leonardo nur sehr begingt verträglich. Tatsächlich haben wir festgestellt, dass der Connemarahengst vor allem mit größeren Pferden gut zurecht kommt. Kleinere werden von ihm oft schikaniert und unnötig gejagt. Dabei spielt es kaum eine Rolle, welches Geschlecht ihm gegenüber steht. Selbst Stuten werden, abgesehen von den rossigen Tagen, von ihm oft aggressiv angegangen. Doch dann gibt es auch wieder Pferde, mit denen Leonardo super zurecht kommt und die sich alles erlauben dürfen. Es scheint, als wäre vor allem die Sympathie für ihn ein wichtiger Punkt.
