Sandro ist im Allgemeinen genügsam und entspannt. Solange keine Stuten in der Nähe sind ist er ein Lamm und auch für unerfahrene Leute leicht zu händeln. Er lässt sich viel gefallen, will man ihm das wieder gut machen, sollte man es im Sommer mit einer gründlichen Dusche versuchen, denn Sandro liebt Wasser über alles.
Optisch hat er den alten Schlag behalten und macht gerne einen behäbigen Eindruck, während er im Grunde aber auch aufgeweckt und wenig sein kann. Unterm Sattel dreht er gerne mal auf und zeigt sein Gangwerk, viel Mut und Schwung bringen ihm beim Springen und im Gelände etwas. Er arbeitet auch gerne in der Dressur, hat Spaß an fordernder Arbeit und lernt schnell neue Lektionen.
Vor der Kutsche hat man bei ihm direkt den Eindruck „ja, da gehört er hin“, denn er erfüllt das Klischee des wuchtigeren Fahrpferdes ganz gut. Man sollte sich nicht wundern, wenn er einen dann hinter sich lässt, denn Sandro lässt sich nicht lumpen und dreht auf, sobald der Fahrer das passende Go gibt.
Zwischen anderen Pferden ist er allgemein friedlich, nur vor seinen Hengstmanieren sollte man sich ein bisschen in Acht nehmen, denn dann wird aus dem entspannten Haflinger auch mal ein tanzendes Nervenbündel.
