Erfolgsorientiert! Herausfordernd! Rücksichtsvoll! Furchtlos!
Was, das klingt wie eine merkwürdige Jobannounce? Wie jemand, der sich bewerben möchte auf einen abenteuerlichen Tripp? Nö, das hört man die Reiter sagen, wenn sie Cardinal kennen lernen. Er ist tatsächlich ein äußert ehrgeiziger Typ, der sich gerne selber ein bisschen über seine Grenzen bringt und sich so leicht nicht erschrecken lässt. Sei es ein neues Hindernis oder ungeplante Regenschirmattacken, er bleibt cool und macht sein Ding. Die Herausforderung in dem Hengst liegt vor allem an seiner Arroganz, seinem Neid (auf ALLES) und sein Eifer. Er steht sich manchmal selber im Weg und verlangt einfach zu viel von sich selber. Sein Neid bezieht sich nicht nur auf Futter, das Stroh seines Boxennachbars oder die schicke Stute von Nebenan. Er wird auch neidisch auf die Bürste, wenn man sie zu lange in der Hand hält, reagiert mitunter bösartig, wenn man sich zu lange mit einem anderen Menschen unterhält oder wenn die Konzentration einfach nicht bei ihm ist. Er ist sehr schwierig zu händeln, wenn andere Pferde in der Nähe sind.
Allerdings zeigt er sich im alleinigen Umgang sehr mild und gnädig, verzeiht beim Training auch mal Fehler und lernt schnell. Der Dunkelbraune braucht eine feste Bezugsperson, auf die er sich verlassen kann und die ihn genau so gut kennt, wie er sie kennt. Dann lassen sich auch seine Unarten ganz gut im Zaum halten. Auf Turnieren kommen seine Triebe etwas stärker hervor und es wird wirklich eine Herausforderung, ihn korrekt durch den Parcours zu bringen, jedoch für einen erfahrenen Reiter nicht all zu schwer. In der Dressur sehen wir keine großen Hoffnungen für den Knaben, er ist begnadeter Springer und sollte auch in seiner Welt bleiben. Eventuell würde er sich noch für das Gelände eignen, aber es ist einfacher, ihn in einem abgegrenzten Bereich unter Kontrolle zu halten, statt ihm die Möglichkeit zu bieten, auf den nächsten Busch eifersüchtig zu werden.
